BBC Iplayer

Postby Rog (RJ) on Fri Oct 31, 2008 6:52 pm

Has anybody noticed their computer slows down when the Iplayer software is installed?
I started having problems after I'd installed it. I also noticed that my internet connection was showing activity for quite a lot of the time when I wasn't uploading or downloading anything.

I checked what was happening and part of the Iplayer software is an executable called kspec.exe and it seems to be sending data out to the internet (presumably back to the BBC or their agents) even when Iplayer is not being used. There is an icon in the taskbar notification area unless you choose to close it (Exit). Last night in excess of 50meg had been sent out!
Do you think big brother is watching us?

PS I've un-installed Iplayer and everything seems to be back to normal now.
A happy New Year to one and all

I cant say I have installed iPlayer software? I never knew it existed!

I just watch it of the web. I would imagine though if it is sending info back all the time it will slow down your computer.

There is a ' allow computer to report back to the Beeb' box on the settings , you can turn it off . Left click on the tool bar icon and its under settings
