Bought an Elite

Postby traincliff on Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:33 pm

:D As my track has been progressing I have been cheating more and more and running some of my converted old locos using a Lenz Compact. However I had always known it would not be versatile enough in longer term so took a chance this week and bought an Elite on ebay - I dont like the Dynamis.

So far I am very impressed - it has vers.1.3 loaded and I have been using in Standard mode as none of my locos have the original Hornby chips. Seems very straightforward and user friendly.

Would appreciate any tips from Elite users on here.

Just one tip: When "naming" a loco, rotate control 2 to select the letters and all manner of characters are available!. Rotate the control about 5 times (fairly quickly) and you reach lower case letters.

:D Hi Boris et al. Like all these controllers it depends what you are looking for and personal preference. My short experience of the Elite so far is that it i s good value for money, versatile and easy to use. It is a step up from my Lenz Compact and does all I currently require. I dont need total walkabout and dont like the Dynamis gamepad. I do like the Elite keyboard and screen and the way the menus unfold. I do like the view of "regulator" setting on the screen. I could go on.

I would recommend it for me but your needs may be different. It appears to me that most of its earlier difficulties have been resolved but the outstanding one is the number of "moves" needed to switch functions on and off.

I dont have enough experience to go further yet but I am delighted!

I've got the Elite and agree with Cliff about the Elite.

The functions could easily be operated by just pressing the number buttons to give functions 0 -9 while the higher numbered functions could be accessed by using the [Function] button as a shift key.

Another thing I want is the ability to scroll through locos by name. The facility is there to name locos but every time you want to select a fresh loco you have to enter it's address. Why can't I just scroll through the names I have already entered? It might be possible to do that but perhaps I've not found out how to do it.

is there a way you can tell it to double head two locos, so they both listen to the same commands?
and, i have used the nce powercab, and it has the abilaty to switch between two locos, but for any others you need to type in their whole number. I need this but for 3 or more locos, does the elete do that?

Hi again Boris

Yes you can proramme double heading in as I think you can wih all NMRA compliant controllers. I have not done it but you programme 2 (or presumably more) locos to work together with a unique address. If you go to the Hornby website you can download the Elite destruction manual and that will explain. That is what I did before finally deciding to buy an Elite.

Boris,

You can form a consist of two loco's, and you can have at least 3 consists, I know this because I've done it, class 20'2, class 37's and class 52's. I don't think you can get three loco's in a consist though.

It is possible to get 3 in a consist (or triple header) but it's a bit of a fiddle (unless it's now been disabled on software updates).

Say you have three locos that you want to consist, numbered 1, 2 and 3. Assign locos 2 and 3 to the consist address 1 and all three locos will move together.
