I've just completed wiring my layout for DCC, and during testing found the following useful.
I split the layout into 4 area's, and isolated each area from each other, I then provided a loop of two 2.5 mm2 cables around the board, from which dropper cables were connected to the track, I then inserted the some plug connectors, the type used for 12v lighting systems into the loop so I could isolate each section required, these are rated at 48v 25A and if I get a short or track problem, I can quickly find the offending section.
using the same plug/socket I have provided several points where I can plug in the controller so I can operate from several viewpoints.
