NEO magnets

Postby tradman on Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:24 pm

I have many loco's in which it is possible to replace the magnets with NEO types. These are upto 4 times as strong as standard magnets. Most were purchased via Ebay others direct but the improvemnt in running is amazing. A hornby Dublo City of London, which was a bit iffy running and taking current in excess of 600ma now runs superb, current at less than 350ma on a hornby decoder. ZTC eat you heart out.

So far I have repleced the magnets in the Hornby Dublo Duchess class, Triang power bogies in Class 31 and 37, and in several XO4 powered loco's. All run, pull and operaqte much better than before.

Curently I am trying to modify a class 47 ringfield bogie to take two small neo magnets so obtain improvement in these.

A highly recommended upgrade if possible.

I have used them on my Graham Farish motors and they do improve the running , The old magnets get used for holding notes on the side of the computer

I managed to get about 18 off of the X247 bearings prior to modelspares closing and have now changed most of my stock, although I need a few more. The same with XO4 spares, I bought from modelspares via ebay several lots of spares.

One of my neighbours, only recently came out about being a railway modeller, and he had a worm puller which I borrowed. He also has a armature winding attachment which fits into a drill. I will hopefully be making a duplicate over the next few weeks so I can rewind the armatures I have.
