More sections

Postby KingEdward1st on Thu Apr 10, 2008 10:41 am

As you are aware there are lots more members joining everyday. Now what i'm thinking is that more sections should be made to cater for all these people. What do you think? Is it too early to make this forum bigger or should we act now?

Thanks,

Jake :)

Start now Jake, I can't see any reason why not.

You could start with splitting the gauges i.e. one for OO, N, Z etc. If some are never posted on, it's no real problem and they might attract even more members.

Why more sections? There were more sections once before and it ended up with lots of sections that never got any posts.

Wait until members (and I mean more than 1) start to ask for separate sections. Quite often, points of interest in one section are relevant (and are of interest) to all members but only ever get seen by the minority that view that particular section.

I had a friend once, who had a computerised database, it was tricky to use as you had to know what section to look in. Another friend had a word document, everything in one place, everything easy to find. Need I say more?

Lots of sections don't make a forum better.

I agree with Rog. Just have a look at Model Rail Forum. Loads and loads of sections and it just seems a bit much to take in. This forum is much better because it's clearer and 'cleaner'.

The downside of too few sections is that a post can get swamped by other posts within a few minutes if it's done at a busy time. Once you've seen a post, it's flagged as read. I find that as my time is limited, I'll not answer straight away (thinking I'll post a response later) but then find that another thread catches my attention and end up forgetting the original thread and so it stays unanswered :? . This happens a lot on the big H forum which has very few sections. If there were more, smaller sections, you can see last date posted and go back to find the one that you had an interest in very easily.

That's my view, for what it's worth and will quite happily go with the flow.... :)

No more sections it is, until we reach the 1000 post mark! One thought behind the making of this forum was a clear layout. Model rail forum and all the others confused me! I never knew where to put my topic.
