Lima bogie pick up service

Postby Teleman on Tue Jul 29, 2008 8:10 pm

I have found with the Lima diesels that the trailing bogie pick ups give trouble with intermittent running after they get old ,

Take the top off  and you will see a clip with a wire on that just pulls off and then the trailing bogie will come away from the chassis .

Very carfully undo the clips , its very easy to break them , but they do stick together with super glue

This is what you will find inside , they need a good clean with 400 grit paper or a fiber pen

I solder the pin but its a tricky as you need a lot of heat as the pin is large and don't forget to clean the axles as well

Don't forget which way the wheels go as if you put one of them in the wrong way round you will have a short curcuit .

The motor bogie is held in by two screws on the underside you need to take them out to get the bogie out of the frame ,then unsolder the wire to the motor and it slides out

After a good clean up i replace the clip on the rear bogie with a terminal block and the wire as that could be broken after years of running

Then a test run before you put the top back on

The grinding noise is the auto focus on the camera ! just goes to show how quite they can be
Remember this is a 3 pole 20 year old motor as well and if i turn up the controller to full speed it trys to get off the rolling road :o
