Whilst at my local today, I had five quid spare, so I decided to buy a kit, and the aforementioned wagon was the only one available in my price range (Although I hadn't considered staff discount, which gave me £5 change out of £20!). Another reason was that this kit was supplied with modern wheels and couplings.
This kit was the easiest Dapol kit to assemble I have ever built, apart from the brake shoes, which took me a while to figure out where they fitted. The instructions, whilst clear, can sometimes get confusing to those who are not fully clued up on railway terms, although common sense and educated guesses help when these situations arise-something I lack...
The wagon runs well on the metal wheels supplied, althought the couplings are a little higher than on my other RTR wagons. The painting is probably best done when tank and frames are compleeted, but not joined. In my rush to complete the kit, however, I assembled and glued the two together, something I'll probably regret. The paint scheme will be quite easy compared to the steam engines I've built-black all over, apart from silver buffers and red axle boxs. Logos will be those of Regent, however, one problem-the transfers are round and yet the panel onto which they will be placed is an oval. Other transfers such as the number are shown cleary where to be put on the instructions. I will upload piccies tomorrow once I've been to town and bought more black paint. In the meantime, I can get on with landscaping-I think I may just get Camborne Parkway finished tonight if I'm lucky...
