A introduction, (well you did ask).

Postby Big John S on Mon Nov 10, 2008 11:21 pm

Hello fellow forum members. I'm Big John S, this refers to my height, nothing else, but I can dream can't I? I'm 60, and have been a railway enthusiast since about the mid 1950s. I lived in Crawley, Sussex 5 mins away from the Three Bridges- Horsham line and I used to spend a lot of time at a nearby level crossing watching the trains go by. Then it was trainspotting with the help of Ian Allan ABCs, beer, girls, marriage, then back to railways again and I've been a true devotee ever since.
I live in East Surrey, near Gatwick, I have a 12 X 8 shed in the garden in which I'm currently building my first real model railway. I have 100+ plus locos, numerous carriages and wagons, and I can run the layout with steam from 3 out of the 4 regions, and with diesels too, but my first and real love is BR(SR) Central Section, and my most prized locos are those which I remember seeing on an almost daily basis in my formative years, the C2X, E4 and the M7. I have an H on order, but the one model loco I would dearly love to own is a K mogul, 32348 please. That would complete the collection of fondly remembered 'locals'.
I belong to the Bluebell society, and to the Crawley Signal Box Preservation Society who lovingly look after the ex LBSC box at the top of Crawley High Street by the infamous level crossing.
Well, I guess that's about all, a potted history of my railway interests, though I do also have an interest in almost all old vehicles but particularly buses, London Transport and Southdown of course.
I hope you find this of interest.
